Final blog post: The advantages and disadvantages of blogs in the English classroom

I knew blogs since two or three years ago, but I never felt interest about they. The computer isn't my friend, so I use it just the necessary. Althoug I like to write, I prefer a pen and the privacy from my notebook.

This year I reconciled me with this communication way. In our english class we must open a blog account and post weekly. Ksenia post in her blog the topic for the class and we redacted that we wanted.

I had never write a long text in English before, so first it was difficult to me. I needed to visit wordreference.com many times each day, and I felt tired after the class.

When the semester advanced, I noted that my write ability was better than before. I had not many troubles to say the thing that I wanted, I used less time to write long paragraphs and I had better time!

One of the advantages of the Blog is that you have the possibility to write in every place, at every hour. Internet is accessible, and you only need time to work.

In your Blog there aren’t censorship. You can write that you want, and that’s great. The problem is, and this is a disadvantage, that you have any privacy if you publish your text on Internet. Other people even can post his opinions about your text! I think this is a double-edged sword, because it’s funny to comment and rewiew the comments that your friends do, but I dislike that everybody can acces to the information of mi life. Therefor I’m agree with the blog in our english classes. The topics that Ksenia published was about our life, but never about our private life. I never feel intimidate.

The Blog help you to practise your way to write in english, but I think that this can be better if the teacher make corrections every weeks. I think that today I write more than before, but I don’t know if now I write better.

So, I recommend this way to practise, but it is necessary somebody that say what’s right and what’s wrong.

Assignment 5: Art

I have an artist cousin. He has 25 years and he paint since he had 12.
In 2000 he went to Catholic University to study Art, but he leave the classes two years ago because he thought that there there was nothing else new to learn.
The style of his painting has many colors, and he always shows scenes where there are many different little scenes. He paints young, adult and old people in a restaurant or in a bar. Almost ever you can find a bottle of wine and cigaretts in this pictures.
They always make happy the place where they are. If you are in the room where there are one of them, you can't be indifferent about it, because it suggest many things.

The picture that I choose today calls "Irene". I don't know who is she in the real life, but I think that she can be a strong women, a little serious, intelligent and bohemian. She has a deep look, and she attracts the interest of all that stay in the bar.
My cousin calls Rodrigo Labra, but his friends call him Julio. That's why in his paintings he sign as "WHOLEO" (that in spanish sounds like "Ju-lio").
If you want see more of his pictures and other paintings from different chilean artist, visit MOVART
Enjoy it!

Assignment 4: A Website You Enjoy Visiting

My dad is amazing: He has a cakes factory, he build a four-storey house in the mountain, and three weeks ago he launched his first book: "My barbecue's memories"
This is a book to include all the events that happened around the barbecue, when the family or friends are togheter.

He created an editorial, and a webpage to promote the book. It calls Mis Memorias, and I enjoy to visit it, because here I see photographs about the launch, I read the comments from people that went that day, and I see how are the sales.

If you enter to this website, you can't do everything that I do, because I have a password to see the comments and the sales, for example. In spite of this, I recommend you that enter to Mis Memorias and enjoy the photos and rewiev the book.

Assignment 3: Write a Film Review of a Scary Movie

I never had seen a scary movie. The aren't interesting for me. In spite of this, I saw the thriller "The Grudge" last year.

The director is the japanese Takashi Shimizu, and he remake his film Ju-On: The Grudge, to 2003.
The cast is composed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Ka Dee Strickland, Clea Du Vall, Bill Pullman, Grace Zabriskie, Rosa Blasi, William Mapother, Ted Raimi and Ryo Ishibashi.

The plot is simple: Karen (S. M. Gellar) is an american women studying Social Work in Japan. One day she accept to replace a nurse in her job, to caring for an old sick women. In the house she feel strange noises, and discover a terrorific power that she must stop.

I dislike this film because is possible to predict the next scene, so you never feel scare.

Who should see this film? People that saw Ju-On: The Grudge and people that like japanese movies

Assignment 2: Evaluate the Veracity of an Article

I read the article about Skinny Angelina (Jolie) in In Touch magazine. The title in the article was: Angelina, her doctor's warning.

The author says that she is very thin: her hand and her legs are bony and her spine is showing. The main problem of that is that she want to get pregnant, and she can't. The doctor claim that it is not possible if she is skinny, because she isn't ovulating. Why? Because underweight women don't have anought fat to maintain the normal hormone levels necessary for ovulation. She add that stress, lack of sleep and travel trought different tome zones can contribute to problems.

I think that this evidences are enough to be agree with the doctor and with his claim.

Assignment 1: My Fiestas Patrias

Hello everyone!
I'm back in my english class, and today I will write about my last Fiestas Patrias.

I went with my family to my uncle's house in Talca. In our car traveled 6 persons, in other car traveled another uncle with his family (7 persons more) and in my uncle's house live 8 more, so there there are more than 20 persons! That was really funny, because we did many chilean games, like potatoes sack race and tug on the rope. Our great-aunt was the judge, and she was sharing candies and kisses us prize.

On 18th september everybody traveled to Curepto and Iloca, 3 hours from Talca. Curepto is a pretty quiet small town, and Iloca is a little beach. There we made a pic-nic and played in the sand. That was really good, because all of us was relaxed.

On 19th september we went to a Fonda in Talca. That was really funny! There were many chance games (where my brother lost everything), happy music like cumbia and cueca and really cheap food.

In my family the food is the most important in a party. My aunt made cheese, vegetarian and chilean empanadas, many types of salad and three big cakes. My dad and my uncle made the grilled flesh and all of us ate every day. It was horrible, because when I returned to Santiago I have won 2 kilos in just 4 days!

Because of that my recommendations for future fiestas patrias is: don't eat so much because then you will regret!

Assignment 4: Interesting Career-Related Topics

When I chose my carrer I was working with a group of girls who lived in a Centre for Children. There we use the dance like a theraphy for them. We had good results and everybody was really happy for that.

I chose my carrer because I want to development this type of therapy, but I forgot it when I started to study Anatomy, Biology, Math and Psichology.

Three weeks ago we had a class about Body Language, and there I can remember what was my first motivations for study Occupational Therapy.

It is exciting! Our bodies tell us every time how is our mind: if we are stressed our neck is tense, if we are depressed our body looks to the floor. Today the world go really fast, so we can't hear what our body want to tell us. The Body Language help us to identificate our physical and mental necessity and if you carry on the therapy you can treat this problems.

This week I spoke with the Body Language professor and I explained that I want to learn more about this therapeutics current. She said me that first I must to explore with my body in all the courses that I can. I practice different types of dance since 7 years, now I'm doing contemporary dance and in july I will start a course of ritual dance.

My professor said me that in Buenos Aires there are many courses about "Dance Therapy", because there was born
MarĂa Fux, the founder of this current. She is alive and I hope go there to take one of this courses on vacations.

I want to learn about this because I belive in the body power and in the connection between this and the mind. If I, like an Occupational Therapys, have tools to help people to recognize his bodysymbols I can help them better.

I checked some web pages about this subject, and I hope you visit
ADTA (American Dance Therapy Association) and IIDT (International Institute for Dance Therapy). Here you can find information about Dance Therapy and about courses that they give.

Enjoy them!
